Looking Ahead

Service Opportunity

We are scheduled to volunteer at Metro CareRing, 1100 E. 18th Ave (18th and Downing) in their food pantry on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 5:30 - 7 pm.

Please bring items to donate if possible (pasta, canned green beans, canned pinto beans, and canned black beans are suggested).

If you are able to come, please contact Kathy Hulse at 303.762.6491 or email: hujojo@aol.com since we need to give Metro CareRing an approximate count of people who can volunteer. If you're NOT on administrative council, you are still welcome to participate.

Picnic and Hiking!

Sunday, July 25th, 12:30 p.m.

We'll meet in the picnic area of Reynolds Park at 12:30 p.m. for a potluck picnic. Following lunch there will be walking/hiking opportunities throughout the meadow, along the stream, and into the hills. Walking/Hiking options are 0.5 - 6 miles and suitable for people of all abilities and ages 2 through 102 years!

Iced tea, lemonade and water will be provided for the lunch. Please bring food to share at the picnic and your own plates, cups and silverware. If you plan on walking/hiking remember to bring appropriate shoes, water and sun protection.

Reynolds Park is part of Jefferson County Open Space and located about 5 miles outside of Conifer. It is a 45-50 minute drive from Warren Church. From Denver, take US Highway 285 South past Conifer. Exit at Foxton Road, turn southeast (following signs for Reynolds Park) and drive 5.5 miles. The parking lot is on the right.

Bike Riding and Ice Cream!

Sunday, August 29th, 12:30 p.m.

Save the date for this family-friendly bike ride for beginners and experts alike. Following the ride we'll gather for an ice cream treat!

Plan to join us for just the bike ride, just the ice cream, or both! More information will be coming soon. For questions or more information contact Laurie Day, daylauriea@gmail.com or 303-895-5342

Spiritual Development at Warren

Prayer Circle--Meets on the second and fourth Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Adult Classroom on the lower level of the church. If you would like to grow in your faith through study and prayer, including prayer for members and friends of the Warren faith community and the world, you might find this group a rewarding experience.

Besides praying for people and situations, the group uses study books to focus and guide our thoughts, prayers, and growth. The current study began the the first Saturday of March, using the book Exploring the Way, another in the Companions in Christ series of studies.

Music at Warren

Here is your opportunity if you love to sing! During the school year (Sept.-May) there is a choir for the morning service (9:00 a.m.). This choir sings a variety of choral music. Choir begins a new year on Sept. 13. The Sanctuary Choir continues Warren's tradition of worship through music beginning the Sunday after Labor Day. Anyone who would like to use their voice in praise and worship is invited to join the choir for practice each Sunday after the 9:00 service in the Sanctuary. The choir typically performs twice a month and gives a choral program at Palm Sunday (Spring) and during Advent (December).

Warren's Reading Room Ministry!

Malcolm Himschoot has been working downstairs to turn part of the space into a new reading room ministry. By then he is seeking donations of worthwhile books, DVDs and periodicals to "support and engage each one's faith journey" and "to proclaim theologically and socially progressive Christian values."

Please contact Malcolm if you subscribe to any of the following and would be willing to share magazines like:

  • - Orion
  • - Sojourners
  • - Ploughshares
  • - Weavings
  • - Christian Century
  • - Alive Now
  • - The Sun

Also think about whether you have quality books to share related to ministries at Warren:

  • - Narcotics Anonymous
  • - housing and transition from homelessness
  • - refugees
  • - youth
  • - recent seminary textbooks
  • - lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender-affirming Christian spirituality

Lastly, let Malcolm know if you have places you'd recommend on a 'virtual library' bookshelf - for instance the link to your own blog! "With Wi-Fi, a comfy chair, and a few organized shelves, the reading room is ready."

Congratulations Newlyweds

We offer a special blessing and celebration to Paul Grzybowski and Nicole Quintanilla who married on Sunday, July 4th! Blessings on your life's journey together! Together with their children: Allison and Ryan Grzybowski and little brothers, Mason and River, they begin a new family together.
